Technical observations from my wifePerformance
I was telling my wife about my day at work, and the conversation went something like that:
- Me: So we spent all day trying to optimize this really expensive query.
- Wife: What made it so expensive?
- Me: We weren’t sure, but it run for 300 – 400 ms!
- Wife: You are so impatient.

That's more than I get, which is usually "Stop, you're boring me." or "Really? Wow!" (turns to do something else).
"What made it so expensive?" "The fact that n developers spent an entire day working on it"
I can handle that from non technical people. Unfortunately I've had plenty of conversations with managers/co workers along the same lines.
"10 second page load? That's good enough"
Last conversation I had about my job with my GF was:
Her: Tell me what you do at work that makes you so busy all the time Me: proceed to explain everything i do Her: Oh really? To be honest, I don't understand anything you just said. I think you're just pretending to be busy so you don't have to talk to me.
Hmmm formatting on that comment didn't work out as expected :(
