Funny. I received that message the other day (different class and method). Don't recall how I resolved it, but I think it had to do with referencing the wrong version of a library.

Sometimes you can get this error if you are referencing different versions of the same DLL in different projects of the same solution.

Well first of all you should be calling RenderPartial() and not calling RenderUserControl()

Could it be caused by the bug in VS: KB957259 - C# Background compilation causes bogus errors in ASP.NET ( http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/kb957259/)
