Recently I discovered David Gemmell, great stuff, especially the Drenai stories, I was sorry to discover he died a couple of years ago. By the way, in terms of raw talent IMVHO the best of the living ones (the best of all time is obviously Robert Heinlein, no IMHOs there) I read is Peter Hamilton, but could improve, he tends to lost the plot a bit.
