Why is it that some things are fun to write and others aren't?

I find that exploring new ways of doing things can be fun but there's also fun to be had in things I've done loads before (still find starting off a new ActiveRecord project fun, mostly cos it's so easy compared with the pain of before I discovered it!).

I've also found some programming that starts fun until you hit that WTF moment where you just can't understand why it does what it does. SharePoint does this a lot!
