A big improvement in terms of UI. I actually liked the old html ui because it was very responsive and fast even though it was low on functionality. I understand why you are using silverlight. One of the main problems with the SL version is handling large amounts of data which the html version was very good at. However, it seams that 6 - 8 would not be uncommon and I'm not sure that the UI would work in that case, especially if you keep the "doc quantity viz" One thing you could do, if you are concerned about horizontal space for presentation purposes would be to provide a little button in the toolbar that lets the user toggle from horizontal to vertical view. Vertical splitting means that you are losing a LOT of space when you are presenting, which is something that I would like to avoid. We don't really consider this to be tabs. However, I think there are some issues with the collections view. I would recommend doing a little more work on the "tabs" in the collections view. I'm not sure that the document quantity visualization works when it's laid out like that. You could probably just use the number. Also, you might want to do some styling on that so I can tell that it isn't a horizontal list box ;) Also, make sure those "tabs" look ok when you have more like one or two dozen collections rather than just two.
